Our History

Emmanuel Christian University started as a training program for pastors using the Timothy Training Institute (TTI) curriculum to empower church leaders to be effective communicators of God’s Word. The training started in the late 1990s by George William in Ikotos town, in Eastern Equatoria State in partnership with Africa Inland Church (AIC). In 2000, due to LRA activities in the area, the program was moved to Yei town, Central Equatoria State under the auspices of Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). However, due to the aerial bombardment of Yei Town by the Khartoum regime, the program was relocated with the help of Archbishop Elias Taban Parangi to Goli.  It was in Goli that the program developed into an institution that became known as Emmanuel Christian Training Center (ECTC) in 2001.

Other Programs such as the Teacher Education Certificate in partnership with the Foundation for Cross Cultural Education (FCE), the Children Ministry Certificate in partnership with the Petra College, and the Pastor’s wife certificate were developed between 2003 and 2005 under the leadership of Rev. George William. In 2010 under the leadership of Rev. Dr Drasi Caesar Bua ECTC collaborated with South Africa Theological Seminary to offer Diploma and Bachelor of Theology programs. Similarly in 2011 ECC was affiliated to Mount Meru University in Tanzania and St Paul’s University in Kenya to offer Certificate and Diploma of Education programs and Diploma of Leadership and Management respectively. The institution has been serving all parts of the current South Sudan and Nuba Mountains attracting people from different denominations, tribes and nations.
